Hamilton Neurofeedback at McMaster Undergraduate Neuroscience Conference 2026

18th March 2026

I was a guest speaker at the 2026 McMaster Undergraduate Neuroscience Conference.

I spoke about: 1) my trajectory in applied clinical neuroscience and the origin story of Hamilton Neurofeedback; 2) the three tools I use in my practice (neurofeedback, HRV biofeedback, and brain red light therapy), and; 3) what I wish someone told me when I was considering career options in undergrad. People asked some excellent questions at the end of the talk.

It was a wonderful experience sharing my passion with the students who attended and came to chat with me afterwards.

Biology & Mental Health: Three Tools to Change Your Practice

9th January 2026

This is a recording of a talk I gave to students in my Masters of Science in Psychotherapy program at McMaster University.

It’s a great introduction to the core philosophy of my practice at Hamilton Neurofeedback: that mental health isn't just psychological, it's biological.

It also explores three tools which can boost mental health: 1) heart rate variability biofeedback (HRVB); 2) transcranial photobiomodulation (red light therapy for your brain); and 3) supplemental creatine.

Folks seemed to find it engaging and helpful, hopefully you do too!

All About Neurofeedback Podcast Feature

26th June 2025

Paul Brand, a neurofeedback marketing genius and owner of the website All About Neurofeedback reached out for a chat. Here’s his description of what we talked about:

“In this episode of the All About Neurofeedback podcast, our host Paul interviews Nigel Barnim of Hamilton Neurofeedback. They discuss Nigel's journey into the field of neurofeedback, its impact on mental health, particularly anxiety, and the importance of understanding different neurofeedback systems. Nigel shares insights on client expectations, outcomes, and the role of systems thinking in neurofeedback practice. The conversation emphasizes the effectiveness of neurofeedback as a treatment option and we encourage listeners to explore its benefits.”

Neurofeedback: An Introduction to Thinking Biologically About Mental Health

11th April 2025

This is a recording of a talk given to students in my Master of Science in Psychotherapy program at McMaster University. It was written and presented to an audience of psychotherapists, so may introduce some therapy terminology. The purpose of the talk was to introduce folks to the idea of neurofeedback and the principles of treating mental illness biologically. I hope others find it interesting.
